Wassermann, Pakistan, and the DNC

In a shocking turn of events, a former staffer for Rep. Debbie Wassermann Schulz (D-FL) has been apprehended and charged with bank fraud near D.C., at Dulles International Airport as he attempted to flee to Pakistan. Pakistani-born Imran Awan IT was an aide to Wassermann during her tenure as Democratic National Committee Chairwoman. Unbelievably, despite an investigation that began in February and Awan’s erratic behaviour prior to the arrest, he was on payroll until he was caught trying to flee the country. The Daily Caller reports that Awan was arrested after wiring $283,000 from the Congressional Federal Credit Union to Pakistan, but given the nature of the case so far, there is guaranteed to be more intrigue.
Here's what we know so far.
Per the aily Calle, when the FBI initiated a criminal investigation back in February, Awan abruptly moved out and put his Lorton, Virginia, residence up for rent on a website that connects landlords to military families. One tenant—a Marine Corps veteran—discovered “wireless routers, hard drives that look like they tried to destroy, laptops, [and] a lot of brand new expensive toner.”
Awan had attempted to destroy IT equipment but didn't finish the job, then forgot to take it with him, leaving it his garage.
“It was in the garage. They recycled cabinets and lined them along the walls. They left in a huge hurry,” the Marine said. “It looks like government-issued equipment. We turned that stuff over.”
Indeed, not long after the Marine Corps veteran—who agreed to speak to the press on the condition of anonymity—reported the discovery to the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, federal authorities arrived to confiscate the equipment. Once he realized what had happened, Awan threatened to sue the veteran and came to the house several times demanding that the equipment be returned.
After failing to retrieve the IT equipment and in the crosshairs of the FBI, Awan attempted to flee the country.
Following Awan’s arrest near D.C. at Dulles, the Daily Caller confirmed that the FBI and the Capitol Police are working together to investigate “serious, potentially illegal, violations on the House IT network.” The criminal investigation includes Awan and three of his relatives—who had access to the networks of the more than two dozen House Democrats. Moreover, the investigation alleges “stealing equipment from members’ offices without their knowledge and committing serious, potentially illegal, violations on the House IT network.”
RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel demanded in a Breitbart xclusiv that Wasserman testify before Congress on the Awan investigation. McDaniel told Breibart, “There are just so many questions with this individual and his family members who received over $4 million of taxpayer money between 2005 and 2009. We need to get to the bottom of it. It’s very sad that the mainstream media is not talking about this at all. It shows the bias.”
Indeed, the little coverage N has run so far concludes with a statement from Awan’s lawyer, claiming that Awan and his relatives were trying to flee the country was because he was fired—yet strangely kept on payroll—and was subjected to harassment from “right-wing bloggers.” There is no mention of Wassermann obstruction, there’s no mention of Awan sending $283,000 from the Congressional Federal Credit Union to Pakistan. Perhaps most startling of all is that CNN doesn’t mention the IT equipment that Awan had attempt to destroy, and was subsequently confiscated by federal authorities.
The Washington Post is running the tor as merely an instance of “home equity loan fraud.” WaPo makes no mention of the fact Awan was kept on payroll until the day he was arrested, there is no mention of the $283,000 he siphoned into Pakistan, and missing again is any mention of confiscated IT equipment.
At the time of this writing, The New York Times has yet to run an article on the matter.
Wassermann is a key figure in this investigation and omitting the former DNC Chairwoman from the story is nothing short of partisan protectionism. McDaniels said of Wassermann in the Breitbart exclusive: “Debbie Wasserman Schultz has obstructed at every turn and protected this staffer even to the point where she threatened a Capitol Hill police officer. There’s something that is curious about their behavior and we need to investigate it and figure out what is happening with the Democrat Party."
