Minneapolis Mayor Betsy Hodges is now being called to resign by protestors at a press conference regarding the recent resignation of Minneapolis Police Chief Janee Harteau. Harteau resigned due to the recent police shooting of an Australian Citizen on July 15th according to Fox News.
Protestors of the shooting marched from Loring Park in Minneapolis to city hall before and during the press conference. The protesters sat in during the conference until eventually halting and taking over the news conference.
The riot began after Hodges finished her statement and began taking questions from the public. That’s when a debate with protestor led to the ending of the situation. One protester said “We do not want you as the mayor of Minneapolis! You have been ineffective. We do not want you as the Mayor, Betsy Hodges!” According to Fox News, Hodges said that she was “happy to sit down and talk with people about the future of policing in Minneapolis.”
Hodges is expecting to release a statement regarding the Minneapolis city government in the coming days.
