BREAKING: President Trump Announces New Nominee for FBI Director

n a rather abrupt announcement via Twitter, President Trump has revealed whom he has chosen to be the next FBI Director: Christopher A. Wray, whom the President calls “a man of impeccable credentials.”
A Yale Law School graduate, Wray went through a series of smaller jobs in government service, from a judicial clerk to an assistant U.S. Attorney, before he was nominated by President Bush in 2003 to be the Assistant Attorney General of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division. Although he worked there for only two years, he quickly rose to prominence by taking on many fraud investigations, which culminated in his investigation into the scandal that led to the bankruptcy of the Enron Corporation.
After leaving the Department of Justice in 2005, Wray turned to private law practices with King & Spalding LLP, where he focused primarily on “white collar and internal investigations.” Besides representing a number of Fortune 100 companies, Wray also served as the personal attorney for New Jersey Governor Chris Christie during the “Bridgegate” scandal. This fact is likely to raise concerns among some who will say Wray is too partisan of a figure to serve in the office.
Nevertheless, Wray has received praise from several prominent law enforcement officials in the wake of the announcement.
Attorney General Jeff Sessions called him “an extraordinary person, possessing all the gifts necessary to be a great director of the FBI.”
Former Assistant Attorney General Alice Fisher, who succeeded Wray at the Department of Justice, also praised his nomination as a “wonderful choice.”
Wray himself has also displayed bipartisan praise for certain individuals, most prominently when he signed a letter in 2015 in support of Sally Yates’ nomination as Deputy Attorney General under Barack Obama.
The President’s Tweet says that more details will be released soon.
