Kathy Griffin Under Fire for Photos Depicting Severed President’s Head
Aric Lee Kirsten, Real Time Updates
Following President Trump’s first Memorial Day celebration, a repulsive photoshoot was staged by photographer Tyler Shields, and comedian Kathy Griffin. On May 30th, Kathy Griffin uploaded appalling photos of herself, holding what appeared to be a severed head of President Trump, drenched with blood. The nature of these photos shook the media, from right-wing outlets like Breitbart and Fox News, all the way to left-wing sites like CNN and the Washington Post.
The posts by Kathy Griffin have prompted her to lose major endorsements, and even her contract with CNN. Kathy has released a ‘heartfelt’ apology, insisting she is a “comic” that took a joke too far, imploring she “crossed the line.” In a since deleted tweet by blogger Yashar Ali, he claims in a conversation with Kathy, “She said, unapologetically, that the image of her that’s gone viral is an expression of art.” Unfortunately for Kathy Griffin, her employers at CNN disagreed, ending her tenure with the news outlet. Even household product Squatty Potty has removed the advertisement she was cast in. In a statement from Squatty Potty CEO Bobby Edwards, “We were shocked and disappointed to learn about the image Ms. Griffin shared today, it was deeply inappropriate and runs contrary to the core values our company stands for.”
Kathy Griffin has thrust herself into a position which could potentially cost her a fair amount of money, and supporters. Even President Trump commented on the controversy, saying “she should be ashamed of herself.” Tabloid news outlet TMZ ran a story claiming the President’s youngest son, Barron, thought the images to be real, thinking he was actually looking at a photo of his father’s decapitated head. The act depicted by Kathy Griffin is intolerable, and upsetting to many of the President’s supporters. This fiasco will hopefully be seen as a uniting call for the left to cut ties with the vicious portrayal of the President.
