Breaking: Terrorist Attack on London
Deborah Porter, Foreign Policy Contributor
On the anniversary of the ISIS attack in Brussels, there is news of a terrorist attack in the heart of London, specifically on the Westminster Bridge. A police officer has been stabbed, according to the NY Times, while preventing the terrorist from storming the UK Parliament. Reports from on scene tell us that people on the bridge were run over and hit in the hurry to get away from the scene, with one woman already declared dead. Officials on scene believe the motorist who ran over twelve individuals, killing one, is part of the terrorist attack, although it is unknown if this is the same man as the knife-wielding assailant. Additionally, it is unknown if the incident is over, and both the House of Commons and the House of Lords are under lockdown for the time being.
The bombings in Belgium killed 32 people, with the attack later claimed by ISIS. As of now, there is no perceived connection between the two incidents, although the coincidence is too blatant to ignore. Today, UK Parliament was set to discuss anything from aviation security to pensions to the Brexit terms, none of which are controversial enough to warrant a terrorist attack.
